Better People

Better People

This is perhaps an extension of having the right people at the right place at the right time, but moves forward to include ‘having’ or ‘developing’ better people. Better people probably means better performance and outcomes because of improved SKAA’s of the people [Skills, Knowledge, Attitudes, Abilities]

Having better people suggests two directions of effort:

  1. detecting and removing whatever may inhibit performance and development
  2. doing whatever seems reasonable to develop and improve performance

1. Remove inhibitors - individual - organisational

Personal inhibitors to development of skills and knowledge may include private non-work issues in addition to work relationship issues. Things ‘on the mind’ can occupy brain time and space to the detriment of performance and learning. Counselling, and understanding stress and motivation can help identify and limit these inhibitors.

Organisational inhibitors may include obstructions to development opportunities, attitude, culture and climate.

2. Develop programs to improve SKAA’s

Provide the right climate and working relationships for individual and group development to proceed. Then provide the development opportunities - Skills - Knowledge - Attitudes - and then ensure the organisation provides the conditions under which the person is Able to perform.
