Communication in Team Building

Team building communications program.

A close cousin to the Myers Briggs personality system (MBTI)© is the DISC profiling system. The DISC system is useful in applying new behaviours to team communication. Where MBTI is about ‘temperament’, the DISC system is more explicitly about ‘behaviours’ and communication styles. The DISC system reports are very easy to follow - and use.

This workshop requires participants to complete a questionnaire beforehand for use during the workshop. Contact us for quotes regarding the DISC report profiles. The purpose is to facilitate team building by improving the quality and quantity of relevant communication within the team, and between the team and external contacts.

Preparation

  • Document explaining the process is sent to each intending participant.
  • DISC Profile system is provided to each intending attendee and relevant managers/supervisors
  • Attendees complete the questionnaire and submit them.

Workshop

  • Communication skills – how to improve them
  • Communication styles – the range of styles identified
  • Your natural style (DISC)
  • Using the DISC – how people communicate with you
  • Using DISC – how you should communicate with others
  • HOW to estimate the DISC of other people
  • How to use this at work
  • How to use this at home

Outputs

Each participant will have a profile that contains a full description of:

  • Each participant will better understand the dynamics of conversation – how and why it fails or succeeds
  • Each participant will have gained new knowledge and skills with which to practice to develop new conversation abilities.
  • Each participant will have a plan of self improvement
  • Each participant will receive a report that contains:
    • A description of the person as they might be seen by others including their key attributes, motivators, ideal manager, communication and decision making style
    • A summary of their motivators, strengths, development areas and areas they would prefer to avoid or delay
    • A graphical description of the person's natural behavioural characteristics.
    • A diamond graph of the person's natural behavioural style and their flexibility zones to show you where they can make the most gains in the shortest period of time.
    • A diagram of the person's natural behavioural style along side a diagram of how they perceive their natural behavioural style is adapting to their current environment. This diagram shows if the person is comfortable with their environment, perceives that they are being stretched too far, or restricted.
    • A "Present Situation" report on the influence of the current environment on the person's motivation as far as his/her needs are concerned and comments on the communication of certain vital emotions.
    • Interview questions relating specifically to the person's behavioural style.
  • Outcomes

Quality of communication should improve in the workplace, and such improvement will usually reflect in levels of cooperation, commitment and quality of actions. In areas where interactions occur, the team-like functions should also improve – simply because they can be discussed and developed. The communicative functions should improve and assume a higher team-like nature. Improved communications can lead to lower stress, higher performance, greater efficiencies and more.
