Signs that warn of Problems

This page is being developed

Some form of consequence will most likely be the first sign you have that there is a problem. The first ‘sign’ of a potential problem in your organisation can, if you notice it, expose ‘symptoms’ that can be explored to find the ‘causes’ – and the ‘problems’ they generate.  Problem avoidance is better than problem solving.

  • A ‘sign’ warns, and is usually small – and usually missed. For example,
  • A ‘symptom’ is a measurable deviation from normal – if you’re looking for it – but you won’t unless you noticed the sign.
  • The cause could vary from something mild like a cold, to something major like lung cancer. One of possibly many problems that may result could be the inability to work at speed and it’s going to cause flow back-up soon.

For a simple example, someone you meet in the hallway and give them an instruction - they are polite but something was different. An alert person might say that you received a ‘mouth’ smile but not an ‘eye’ smile (sign). Perhaps they have something that is occupying their mind and they are not attending you (the focus is on them self) or they are suddenly uncomfortable with you (their focus is on you). You could drive yourself nuts worrying over this stuff, and yet it is real. So don’t go nuts - get real. Appropriately skilled trainers can show you and others in your organisation how do deal with difficult, uncertain but important signs.

Perhaps that person you met in the hallway had a gas pain!

A few of the more important and typical signs are listed in the [Go Forward To:] menu at left.

Find and stop problems before they become big problems.
