Psychological Services tend to follow a program that is designed to provide a balance treatment for maximum impact. A program is designed with a beginning and end and should not be interrupted or cut short. Just as with antibiotics where doctors stress that the full course of treatment is important, so it is with psychology programs. It is important to not stop when you feel better, but to continue to the end whereby you have a much better chance to ‘be’ better - not just ‘feel’ better.
At Deltapoint we follow the program recommended as current ‘best practice’ by the appropriate authoritative body (health department, research centre, psychological society) for each individual disorder.
Sessions are typically 1.5 to 2 hours duration for the first, and thereafter 1 to 1.5 hours per session. Group sessions are 2 hours to start and then 1.5 hours. Programs require from 6 to 12 sessions to complete, usually at weekly intervals although further apart at the end for some programs.
Where special ‘clinical psychologist’ skills are considered necessary, referral choices will be provided.

About Psychological Services
Treatment programs for psychological ‘conditions’ (anxious, depressed, stressed etc.) are like taking antibiotics - it is important that you take the whole course. If you stop before the end of the program, any benefits will not only be weakened, but may fade to nothing. It is even possible for early termination to backfire with unexpected consequences. An example of such a backfire occurs when other people count on the benefits to you of the treatment, and react against your decision to terminate treatment. Remember - a psychological problem is almost never just about you - but also about other people in your life, meaning that psychological treatment is also about those other people. They not only want you to be better, but may need you to be better and are counting on you to be serious about it.
Psychological treatment programs used by our psychologist (Ian Johnson) for treatment of psychological disorders follow current ‘best practice’ for the particular disorder. In these programs, the session numbers and contents have been tested against other programs and found to perform better in important ways.
Remember - if you avoid treatment and keep going the way you are, doing the same things and making the same decisions, nothing will change for the better. A treatment program is a very low cost and quick way to improve your life. It’s a journey that lets you play with and use new ideas and tools to help you function better and enjoy life more.
