Sexual Re-function
Treatment Plan to obtain Sexual Re-function
Before this therapy can proceed, a medical examination must be completed to exclude, or identify, physical reasons for any sexual problems. If there is no biological explanation, then a psychological cause can be assumed. If there is a medical explanation, psychological help may be useful to help the person adjust to needing any medication or accepting new limitations.
Treatment is more effective if the partner is also available for joint sessions, and occasionally some time separate discussions are useful. This treatment plan is like a contract between you, your partner, and the psychologist. There will be homework - things to read, things to do, and things to NOT do. Good outcomes - actually quite brilliant outcomes, are possible if you both approach this seriously with an open mind and do the home in the appropriate spirit and interest. Let’s face it - a good sex life is worth a bit of time and effort.
- Session 1: You and your partner meet and test your comfort level with the psychologist. You separately complete a few assessment forms and you describe your situation. This first session is mainly about the psychologist achieving a comprehensive understanding of you, your partnership, your situation, and possibilities. Some reading is recommended as homework - it is helpful but not essential. Being as well informed as possible about any health problem you have is usually a big help.
- Session 2: This session is entirely taken up by your partner and the psychologist, although there will be time made available at the end for questions by you. Other reading is recommended as homework.
- Session 3: Discuss any medical issue. Receive the psychological report. Discuss and help develop a plan for treatment
