Workforce Planning

Our programs are research-based, results-driven, people-friendly

Duration  one and a half days

What is this workshop about?

Workforce Planning is an inherent part of Strategic Planning for all organisations and is becoming increasingly important in an era of greater reliance on knowledge workers and profound demographic change. This workshop provides a necessary introduction to workforce planning that puts the focus squarely on the people in the planning process –it’s not only about the right skills, but the right people and the right motivation.

Research-based: the workshop is founded on substantial research into organisational capability models, motivation, organisational climate, leader/member exchange and links to job satisfaction, intention to leave, and performance issues.

Results-driven: this is a practical workshop that draws on considerable workforce planning experience, nationally and internationally, and will deliver an action plan for your organisation.

People-friendly:  the approach recognises that workforce planning is about people with skills, not skills gaps.

Who would benefit?

This workshop is an essential step for the Strategic Planning Team, Executive, Strategic HR group or planning committee that is charged with the development of a Workforce Plan – either initiating the planning process, or reviewing an existing Workforce Plan. This workshop would be particularly useful combined with the workshop on Strategic Climate Planning.

Objectives

At the end of the workshop, the participating group will have considered what should be the main emphasis for the workforce plan at this time – is the need for workforce management as well as future requirements, or are current workforce management strategies in place and it is time to focus on the future shape of the workforce in alignment with the Strategic Plan. They will also have assessed the organisation’s current reward and performance management processes. The group will have identified the data requirements and information needed to begin the workforce planning process and assessed stakeholder interests. These would include consumers/customers/clients and ensure that the Workforce Plan addresses supply issues in response to demand requirements. Essentially, the group will develop an action plan for the workforce planning process they have identified that will guide the establishment of a workforce planning initiative within your organisation.

Key topics covered

  • Organisation Capability Building
  • What we know about motivation and incentives
  • Stakeholder mapping
  • Aligning the workforce plan with the Strategic Planning process

The extra mile

This workshop is designed to gain maximum value from the group’s interactions, discussions and analysis – to establish just what workforce planning means in the context of your organisation. Our facilitation includes scribing and synthesizing the discussions and a further half day to assist in finalising the action plan.

This workshop is available on an on-site basis in your organisation or by videoconference direct to your training room. Typical numbers for this workshop are 5 to 20 delegates. You choose the date and the venue, and the extra mile times. We customize the workshop to suit your organisation and agree on performance measures with you.
